About UsResearch Funding

The Institute offers the following definition of Unlimited Love: The essence of love is to affectively affirm as well as to unselfishly delight in the well-being of others, and to engage in acts of care and service on their behalf; Unlimited Love extends this love to all others without exception, in an enduring and constant way. Widely considered the highest form of virtue, Unlimited Love is often deemed a Creative Presence underlying and integral to all of reality: participation in Unlimited Love constitutes the fullest experience of spirituality.

Mission and Approach

The unique mission of the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love is:

(1) Using the methods of the social sciences, we wish to better understand the spiritual dynamics of the experience of Unlimited Love as it is subjectively reported by individuals
(2) Using the methods of the social sciences, we wish to understand how this experience can on the one hand bring about the most profound expressions of universal benevolence and love of others, and on the other hand can sometimes exacerbate religious arrogance and conflict between groups
(3) Using the methods of the humanities, we wish to gain a deeper philosophical and theological understanding of Unlimited Love across the Abrahamic faiths, and of the circumstances under which these faiths can live up to their perennial spiritual-moral ideals of love for all humanity without exception
(4) Using the methods of the social and biological sciences, we wish to better understand the impact of self-reported experiences of Unlimited Love on joy, inner freedom, hope, gratitude, creativity, purpose, inner (emotional) healing, health, and activities of helping both the nearest and the neediest
(5) Using the methods of the sciences and humanities, we wish to gain a better understanding of the human capacity for altruistic love at the interface with spirituality, and to thereby encourage progress toward the love of humanity
